SEOUL, 29 Juli 2021 – Hyundai Motor Group berkolaborasi dengan LG Energy Solution. Ltd untuk memastikan pasokan baterai kendaraan listrik yang stabil untuk kendaraan listrik bertenaga baterai atau BEV.
Hyundai Motor Group dan LG Energy Solution mengumumkan bahwa keduanya telah menandatangani nota kesepakatan atau Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) dengan Pemerintah Indonesia untuk membentuk joint venture di Indonesia sebagai upaya dalam memproduksi sel baterai dari mobil listrik bertenaga baterai atau BEV.
Pada tanggal 28 Juli 2021, Sung Hwan Cho, President and CEO Hyundai Mobis, dan Jong Hyun Kim, President LG Energy Solution, melakukan seremonial penandatangan MoU yang diadakan di kantor pusat LG Energy Solution, Seoul. Bahlil Lahadalia, Menteri Investasi Indonesia, dan Toto Nugroho, Presiden Direktur Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) juga turut menghadiri seremonial tersebut secara virtual.
Melalui MoU ini, Hyundai Motor Group dan LG Energy Solution akan menginvestasikan dana senilai USD 1,1 miliar ke dalam joint venture untuk membangun pabrik sel baterai di Karawang, Indonesia. Hyundai Motor Group dan LG Energy Solution masing-masing akan berhak atas 50% kepemilikan saham di joint venture ini. Pemerintah Indonesia setuju untuk mendukung melalui berbagai insentif untuk kelancaran proses operasional yang stabil dari pabrik tersebut.
Pembangunan pabrik dijadwalkan akan dimulai pada kuartal keempat tahun 2021, dan akan selesai pada semester pertama tahun 2023. Sedangkan produksi massal sel baterai di fasilitas baru ini diharapkan akan dimulai pada semester pertama tahun 2024.
Melalui joint venture untuk produksi sel baterai ini, Hyundai Motor Group dan LG Energy Solution semakin memperkuat kemitraan strategis yang telah dimulai lebih dari satu dekade lalu.
Karawang: Lokasi optimal untuk produksi sel baterai
Kedua perusahaan telah mempertimbangkan berbagai faktor dalam proses pemilihan lokasi terbaik untuk pembangunan fasilitas produksi sel baterai di Karawang.
Indonesia adalah salah satu produsen nikel terbesar di dunia, yang merupakan bahan baku utama untuk baterai kendaraan listrik. Pemerintah Indonesia juga telah secara proaktif membina ekosistem dan infrastruktur industri EV sehingga Indonesia dapat memainkan peran penting dalam kompetisi EV global.
Hal pendukung lain adalah lokasi Karawang yang cukup dekat dengan Jakarta sebagai ibukota Indonesia. Selain itu, Karawang telah memiliki jaringan transportasi yang lengkap termasuk bandar udara, pelabuhan, dan juga jalan bebas hambatan. Sehingga karawang telah berhasil menarik minat dari berbagai industri berskala besar untuk membangun fasilitas di area tersebut seperti otomotif, elektronik, logistik, konstruksi material dan lainnya.
Produksi sel baterai yang dapat memenuhi kebutuhan lebih dari 150.000 kendaraan listrik berbasis baterai (BEV) per tahun
Pabrik sel baterai baru di Karawang akan dibangun di atas lahan seluas 330.000 meter persegi. Ketika beroperasi penuh, fasilitas ini diharapkan menghasilkan sel baterai lithium-ion NCMA dengan total 10 GWh setiap tahunnya, dan mampu memenuhi kebutuhan lebih dari 150.000 unit mobil listrik.
Sel baterai yang diproduksi oleh pabrik di Karawang akan digunakan pada model EV dari Hyundai Motor dan Kia yang dibangun di atas platform BEV khusus Hyundai Motor Group, yaitu Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Pabrik baru ini akan membantu Hyundai dan Kia memproduksi kendaraan dengan efisiensi, kinerja, dan keamanan tinggi dengan memasok sel baterai yang dioptimalkan untuk dua model BEV dari produsen mobil tersebut.
Kerjasama dengan LG Energy Solution juga akan membantu Hyundai Mobis untuk mendapatkan pasokan sel baterai mobil listrik di masa mendatang, seiring dengan permintaan global mobil listrik yang diperkirakan akan terus meningkat. Hyundai Mobis juga berencana untuk mempercepat upayanya dalam memperluas produksi sistem baterai dan mengembangkan teknologi mutakhir untuk mendapatkan keunggulan kompetitif yang berkelanjutan di pasar EV global.
